Probably one of my favorite times of the year. Thanksgiving week here on Eastern side of Washington state, our late season archery whitetail hunt kicks off on the 25th and rutting activity seems to be peaked right around then, a little later than say the Midwest.
I only worked out twice this week, but I didn't care, I was committed to bowhunt for elk and deer. I had a stand on some public ground that has difficult access, some hunting pressure, but is a little bit of a drive and holds some animals. I had elk and deer on camera(s), and knew of one buck in particular that I wanted a shot at. I called him "2beam" since he had two main beams on his left side. This buck was an old warrior that I've had on camera for 4 years, this was the first year that I truly tried to arrow him at his peak. It took 3 all day sits, in my heater body suit, I passed on two bomber bucks to get to him, and the feeling of accomplishment still feels so good as this very hour. Hard work does pay off, what comes easy won't last and what lasts won't come easy.
